Only if you let them. I don't get any spam generated by PayPal or their 'partners', and that's because I specified I don't want any in 'My Account' and the notification preferences. You can do this with vendors that you set up accounts with as well. Just read their privacy policies and follow their simple instructions to opt out of information sharing.
The statement below is from the PayPal Privacy Policy page:
Quote:
How you can restrict PayPal from sharing your personal information
Federal and state laws allow you to restrict the sharing of your personal information in certain instances. However, these laws also state that you cannot restrict other types of sharing. Because we have chosen to refrain from certain types of data sharing, the only type of sharing of your personal information that you may restrict is as follows:
If you do not want PayPal to share your personal information with other financial institutions for the purpose of marketing our jointly offered products to you, please log in to your account and uncheck the box in the Information Sharing section of the Notifications and Information Sharing page. This page can be accessed by going to the Profile subtab under the My Account tab.
You can also control how we use your contact information to market our services to you in the notifications preferences.

I don't have a credit card or a paypal account and don't intend to get either anytime soon, but I would support the availability of a paypal payment option.
...I'm still waiting for a way to gift items from the online store to friends, and a way to buy character slots in retail stores.

I have a credit card, but it's currently joined with my parents. So I prefer to pay all my online purchases with PayPal, anything from retail is either cash or credit card (thank you daddy <3 xD). This is the only reason why I haven't bought any extra characters slots from the store. I need paypal D:
Edit:
By the way, businesses will get your information. Anything can be sold from any place. The only things they cannot know are what you check out from the library and video rentals :O

I still think that electronic check/western union electronic check is a good alternative since a lot of people don't like PayPal.

Paypal tends to be quite untrustworthy. I prefer to stay as far away from it as possible.

You asked to explain, so I will.
I've used Paypal before, and I like the service. I do have my own credit cards as well. With known companies, I prefer to use credit cards directly, but with companies I don't know as well, I prefer to use Paypal.
Since I trust ANet, I would use credit.

Could you provide more information? I've been using PayPal for years, with narry a problem. What specifically is "untrustworthy?"
As we are discussing this, I'd really like to be sure I have all the valuable information that is available, so please do share your thoughts and concerns.

Don't SMS systems take a 100% fee? So something that costs 30 Euros would cost 60?

We don't use credit cards, and as the dutch have yet to figure out what visa debit cards or prepaid visa's/mastercard are PayPal would be our only option. Would definitely use the online store if that was an alternative.

I have a C/C (well, a debit card with the M/C logo) so I don't need to use PayPal.
If Anet feels they're losing some business by not offerring PayPal then, by all means, add it.

I really like PayPal. I would not give anyone allowance to directly book the money from my bank account. With PayPal I have a middle, that is trustworthy. (at least in my eyes) I have never had any problems with PayPal. They never send me emails only if I buy something. I have never gotten any emails from any of their affiliates.
If there was the possibility to buy things in the in-game store with PayPal, I would buy there.
Ah and btw: I do not have a CC. Its absolutely not necessary to have one in Germany. And I'm definitely not going to buy one for the in-game store.
As for SMS: I made bad experience with that and would not use that service either.

The fact that they send my informations to the home security ministry???
The fact that if they think I am even in the most remotely way connected to terrorism, aka I have a name that sounds like the name of a person that could be a terrorist, PayPal closes my account. And in order to reopen a closed account, regardless of the reason for the closure, you have to send them your gas and electric bill and other personal informations?
Yes, the last sentence actually happened in Germany.

I vote No, I would not use PayPal. (Please explain)
explanation: not comfortable doing any dealings that has to reveal identity of money transfer what-so-ever
wouldn't mind going to the local bank to do money transfers and such or sending a check.
ps: I would think a lot of players from my part of the world don't have or don't use paypal or don't have means of doing any money transfers online. Anet could probably set up a deal with our local GW agents that we may pay them and give them our accounts information.

(and yes i did my research and asked my three dutch guildies)
and meastro is now an option in the ingame store, so no worries about the 11 digit code

I voted no. I have a credit card registered with Paypal and I have used them successfully, but I will not register my bank details with them.
The last time I tried to use Paypal it locked me into a card registration page with no way out... which was wierd. It's like it wouldn't let me continue even though they had my credit card details, registering the same credit card again gave a "you've already registered that card with us" type message and put me back on the register new card screen... it's like it wanted my bank card or wouldn't let me continue. So I thought to hell with that, I'll pay the online store I was shopping at directly with my credit card :/ So much for Paypal only taking a minute, it was a pain in the butt - shame, because I've used them before just fine and I like the concept.
What about Google Checkout? I've not used it (yet!) but I hear better things about it than Paypal.

I'm actually looking into google Checkout at the moment for the station, the fees are much better and closer to credit card company costs

I have been done over as a seller a couple of times by paypals chargeback system. It is highly seller unfriendly so would never do anything to recommend that other people use it.
Just to echo what some other people have said: What about an option for Google Checkout?
I don't know what the fuss is about credit cards either, you can use debit cards too so long as they have Visa or Switch/Maestro on.

The problem with Google Checkout is; you have to add a credit card to it to use it. It is essentially a middle-man for your online purchases, but it has no option of hooking directly to a bank account without having a credit (or debit) card.
If they had that, they wouldn't need an alternative method of payment for the online store...

I do not use PayPal, nor do I have a credit card, nor am I of sufficient age for a credit card, but PayPal is dandy for parents who may not trust an in-game store (though personally my dad finds that purchases in-game are more legitimate than payments that are done in the browser which is launched via the game). Where is that option?
PayPal is dandy though. More payment plans = more purchases, most likely. Plus you should just add more methods so that you look more professional!

I currently don’t have a credit card and use a PayPal account for online purchases; I have never had any problem with PayPal and fully support the decision to include PayPal as a payment option and see no reason why it shouldn’t be.
Credit Cards cannot be the only payment option, please implement PayPal or an alternative payment option that is equally accessible to players around the world.
